Last Sat saw the Janet Seidel Trio in the Salon at the Melbourne Recital Centre. Fab concert and venue! Tables, candles, stage close-up, intimate yet great acoustics. Terrific performance, with great variety - very sorry when it ended. Deb

And my mother wanted to add a blog too:
The Janet Seidel Trio is not to be missed. Gentle jazz, superb musicians with a program of Cole Porter – this was an unforgettable evening. Thanks to you all, and especially Janet.  Please come back soon!  Connie

DELOVELY: The Music of Cole Porter

featuring The Janet Seidel Trio at The Melbourne Recital Centre’s Salon

Saturday July 23 at 7.30pm

What a great pleasure to hear one of Australia’s leading jazz vocalists, Janet Seidel, with her Trio, in a sophisticated setting such as The Melbourne Recital Centre’s superb Salon.  This is a delightful change from the clubs and bars where jazz is so often only to be heard.  This great new venue enhances performances with its excellent acoustics and the delightful ambience of the room which seats approximately 200.  It was a full house for this exquisite performance by the all-star Janet Seidel Trio consisting of the distinguished vocalist accompanying herself on piano, along with her brother David on bass and lyrical guitarist Chuck Morgan being ‘right there’ for her throughout the 2 hour performance [which included two encores].  Janet’s performances are always distinct and lyrical, and one couldn’t help wondering what Cole Porter would be thinking if he happened to be tuned in at the time!  Delighted I would think, not only to hear his music being kept so appealingly alive, but also being interpreted with such sophistication by the whole Trio.

They performed at The Salon for two nights, the night before being The Songs of Johnny Mercer – That Old Black Magic.  I very much wished after the great experience of Delovelythat I’d attended the Mercer concert as well.  An opportunity lost, or at least until next time.

It is always a privilege to have the opportunity of hearing this unique Trio who travel almost continually throughout the world as well as Australia.  They are about to depart for six months in Europe, so it was a treat to catch them prior to this.

I noticed several well known vocalists in the audience on the 23rd and I wasn’t surprised; the Janet Seidel Trio is unique and vocalists possibly more than anyone, appreciate the great skill they are witnessing and hearing from this sophisticated outfit.

We look forward to hearing more of them in a ‘salon’ that befits them, in the not too distant future.  In the meantime may international audiences enjoy the Janet Seidel Trio’s superb interpretations of the greatest songwriters in history!
