David Seidel

David Seidel graduated as Bachelor of Education (Music) in 1975 at SACAE (now part of University of Adelaide). Worked as session musician - guitar / electric bass including commercial sessions and ABC recordings. Studied classical double bass with John Foster (principal bass - Adelaide Symphony Orchestra), played in orchestras inc Conservatorium & State Opera.

Played guitar with Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Del Shannon, Rod McKuen, Cilla Black, Ricky May, Ted Nettelbeck, Shmoe etc.

Recorded with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.

Toured Australia with shows eg Barry Humphries, accompanied international jazz artists Buddy Tate, Al Cohn, Urbie Green, Mickey Tucker, Mundell Lowe, Lee Konitz etc.

Lectured in jazz guitar, bass and arranging at the SACAE 1982-7 (Adelaide University).

Moved to Sydney 1987 - worked with top Australian jazz artists including Col Nolan, Tom Baker, Bob Barnard, George Washingmachine, Bob Gebert etc.

Toured France with Janet Seidel (his sister) and Ian Date.

Toured Japan with Tom Baker, Janet Seidel and US jazz artists Bill Berry and Dan Barrett.

Toured Europe with Bob Barnard playing Jazz Festivals such as North Sea.

Toured India for Dept of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Has played bass on jazz albums with Col Nolan, Tom Baker, Bob Barnard, Janet Seidel, David McLeod, Joe Lane etc.

In Sydney in the 1990s established jazz record label La Brava Music andproduced many CDs for leading Australian jazz artists of varying styles.

CDs released include ten with Janet Seidel which have received critical acclaim around Australia and in the UK, Japan, Europe and USA. Likewise those of artists such as Tom Baker, Bob Barnard and Col Nolan, Ben Jones and other leading Australian jazz artists have had widespread success. Several La Brava CDs have been licensed to record labels in Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

In 2002 David continues to play bass in several Sydney based groups, produces numerous recordings, plays on commercial recording sessions and often tours Australia and overseas.

Upcoming tours include Europe, UK, Japan and The Philippines.
